Make Payments For Relatives It is easy for anyone to get behind on his or her bills. There are many reasons as to why this can happen. Sometimes the bills add up and we get ourselves in over our heads in debt. Other times, we find ourselves laid off from work. Injury or illnesses are another reason we may be unable to work. If we do not have enough disability insurance, we can easily get behind on our payments.
Let’s take credit cards for example. Depending on how much the balance is, the minimum payments may not be very high. However, when you are out of work, it can be impossible to cover even that. Some people do take out insurance from their credit card issuer to cover them in the even that they would become unable to work. However, not everyone does. And there are, as with everything limits and regulations even to this insurance.
Now let’s imagine for a moment that we are not the person who is falling behind on payments, but instead a family member of someone who is. There may be something that we can do to help. Perhaps in there time of need, we can step in to help them make a few payments. If both a husband and a wife work and the husband is usually responsible for the bills, while the wife’s income is used mainly for the extras such as the family vacations, and the things that the family wants but not needs, the wife may now be taking on much of the responsibility of the bills. It may be possible for her to take over the payments on the credit card and other bills while her husband is out of work.
In many case even that may not be possible. In today’s world, the cost of living can be quite high. If a husband and wife have children, often times they both need to work in order to provide well for the family. In this case, even with one or the other of the spouse’s still working, the family will not be able to make end’s meet. They may be able to keep up with the necessities. If mom is out of work, dad may still be able to afford to pay the mortgage, the utilities and the grocery bills. He may need to let their credit card bills slide.
Before long the credit card debt will be mounting. The balance will continue to grow as late fees are added; there is a higher balance for the interest rate to be applied to. No amount in access of the minimum is being paid. In fact, not even the minimum payments each month are being met any longer. This is a case, when if you are in a position to help out your family or loved one, you might want to consider doing so. Even if you cannot help them to pay anymore than the minimum payment on their credit cards, you will be helping them by paying just that.
By helping your relative to pay the minimum credit card payment at least, you can take one burden off of them. You can help them to keep their credit from being totally ruined and to keep their credit card accounts in good standing in their time of difficulty. This will help them when they do get back on their feet to be able to get their finances back in order quicker.
Even if your loved one is single and does not have a family to care for, they still may need your help if they are hurt, ill or laid off and out of work. They may feel totally alone in their difficulties and not know what to do. If they have missed payments, talk with them to see if there is anyway that you can help. If you are in a position to do so work out a way that you can help them that will benefit them and not be detrimental to your own wallet or pocketbook.
You do not have to give them the money. It can be a loan that they will pay back at a later date when they are back to work and doing better. If your loved one has already missed payments, see if you can help them to get current with their bills. Again, if you are able perhaps you can help them to pay the late fees and other fees that have been added to their balance.
Helping out a loved one will make you feel good about yourself. This is a situation that pretty much anyone of us could find ourselves in. Our relative our loved one would most likely do what they could to help us out if the role was ever reversed.
